Cars & Coffee Highlights - 10/21/06

What an incredible showing for the first Cars & Coffee show! Guess they can take Crystal Cove away from us, but the show still continues on! :)

I too had a good time at the meet. I hope it stays this good.

I do have one comment about your pics - TOO MANY DAMN FERRARIS. Some of us enjoy seeing other cars as well. There were a ton of great cars at the show, but you stick with just a very small group. Someone needs to start a site that gives better airtime to some other makes. It is your blog so you can picture what you want. I am just bored of only seeing Ferraris on here.

I mean, I saw some awsome Mercedes-Benz cars there - 2 SL65s, 2 S65s a new CLK63 and an a heavily modified SLK that looked clean. I also saw some nice vintage muscle cars and a lot of great Porsches. But you neglected to post any of these.

I need more variety. I can see the Ferraris on Ferrarichat.com.

Just my take.

Turn out was great. Not sure of the staying power of this place. Lot's of freeway noise. Lack of a real coffee place. I think many came the first time, just to check it out. I am not sure if I will return. This weekend I am going to scout out some other locations and maybe start a smaller group. I went to breakfast at 3 Thirty 3 Waterfront in Newport after the show. Their lot was almost full of all kinds of cars. All those guys used to be at Crystal Cove, and where unimpressed with the new location. The owner of 3 Thirty 3 was very happy to have us there. He gave out really nice T-shirts! If anyone is interested in starting a group in another location email me at newportviper@cox.net

I wouldn't say that the freeway noise was any more than the PCH noise... heck, in fact, if you close your eyes, it sorta sounds like the ocean.... ;)

And regarding the lack of a real coffee place, the cafe in the PAG building was open for a full espresso bar, and more food options.

Although this may be a good alternative for some, the main show will continue at Ford-PAG-Mazda. It is not replacing the new show entirely, too many drawbacks.

Let's see, draw backs? Beach, babes, palm trees, place's to eat and sit down, walk the pier, great place to bring the kids......Oh yea, it will cost $1.50 to park. Lot's of draw back's there....

Well, let's see..... hundreds of cars with loud exhausts driving though residential neighborhoods at 7am. Sand. Beach goers. Public beach restrooms. Oh, but I'm sure the parking supervisor will love the additional $1000 of revenue each week. :)

The show doesn't need a temporary home where it will get shut down in a few months. That location just isn't conducive to a long term event. But sure, it works for get-together that isn't trying to compete with the main show.

Additionally, I do not understand the purpose of trying to cause fragments in a successful show. If you want to start your own, then start it. But don't claim that the show is moving just because you want it to. That's a bit arrogant, don't you think?

And please, if you choose to respond, step out of the anonymity.

Hi, my name is David and your name is? I am a regular at the old CC and Ford show. I really don't want to start my own show. The show belongs to no one. However, to stand in a parking lot in the middle of Irvine with no where to eat, is just silly.

To address your comments. The parking is public. It is approved. There are not a lot of beach goers at 7 to 9am. Cars only have loud exhausts when you rev them. I think this (most) group is beyond that. Sand isn't an issue. Unless you don't like to vac your car. ;) I am sure a few dollars to park is not a problem. There are hundreds of spots.

Yea, the way I worded the above is a little over the top. I would change it if I could. I will change it in the future.

Don't want to fragment it. Most 85% I have talked to wish it could go somewhere else. If it doesn't work, I am sure Ford won't shut anyone out. They are getting free advertising, no?

What's wrong with walks on the pier, kids in the park, places to eat? Places to sit down....

So for those that want to stay, stay with Ford. For those that want to sip coffee in one of the most beautiful scenes in the area, drop by. Try it you might like it..........

Mr K....

I guess the bottom line is that it must just kill a Viper owner to park in a lot that has a Ford sign next to it.

I really don't care where you go. There's hundreds of miles of coastline for you to park at. Just stop trying to hijack the main show, by talking bad about it. If things were as bad as you state, turnout wouldn't have been as incredible as it has the last 2 weekends.

Go. Have fun. Heck, let me know where I can mail you your first $1.50 parking fee. I got you covered. ;)

I have a house on the beach in Newport. But, I sure Don't keep my Car there. I had a Blast at the Ford parking lot last week. As for being past the rev your engine thing... No Fn Way... why do we spend millions of dollars on cars that are not pratical???

It's because we want to be seen..and yes heard in our vintage cars, Our sports cars and on our bikes. If that was not the case we would all have a brown 4 door sedan with a baby seat..well ok i have a baby seat but that's my wifes' idea not mine. :-)

Ok back to the topic... When I go to a car morning, afternoon or night..it's not to eat. It's to bench race and Kabitz with other guys and gal who share the same passion I have... CARS.

I'll grab a bite to eat after wards with the wife and kid or park the car some where safe where I can watch it while chow down.

And as far as the cost $1.50 to park per hour...I'd rather burn the money driving the extra miles to Irvine then give NPB more of my hard earn money.

Ok that's my Two cents.... No make that My $1.50
